The original band members were Lauri Yl\u00f6nen (lead singer\/songwriter), Eero Heinonen (bass), Pauli Rantasalmi (guitar) and Janne Heiskanen (drums). Heiskanen quit the band in 1998 and was soon replaced by Aki Hakala.<br \/>\nBefore releasing their fourth studio album <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Into-Rasmus\/dp\/B0000ES93L\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1310530702&amp;sr=8-1\">Into<\/a> (2001), they were simply known as Rasmus, but changed their name to The Rasmus in order to avoid being confused with a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.myspace.com\/rasmushroom\">Swedish DJ<\/a> of the same name. They gained international fame with their 2003 album <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Dead-Letters-Rasmus\/dp\/B0001JXQAQ\/ref=pd_bxgy_m_img_c\">Dead Letters<\/a> which went gold and platinum in several countries, accompanied with the single \"In the Shadows\" which reached number 1 in a number of countries. Their follow-up album <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Hide-Sun-Rasmus\/dp\/B000ICLTAK\/ref=pd_bxgy_m_img_b\">Hide from the Sun<\/a> which was released in October 2005 also went platinum in Finland.<br \/>\nThe band is one of Finland's most successful with more than 3.5 million albums have been sold worldwide, eight gold awards and five platinum awards. They have released seven studio albums, two compilation album and 21 singles. Some of the band's most famous songs are the singles \"Liquid\", \"F-F-F-Falling\", \"In the Shadows\", \"First Day of My Life\", \"Funeral Song\", \"No Fear\", \"Sail Away\", \"Livin' in a World Without You\", and \"Justify\". Their most recent album, titled <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Black-Roses-Special-Rasmus\/dp\/B001EX28DY\/ref=pd_sim_m_5\">Black Roses<\/a>, was released in 2008. Immediately it replaced <a href=\"http:\/\/www.metallica.com\/\">Metallica<\/a>'s latest album <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Death-Magnetic-Metallica\/dp\/B00192KCQ0\/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1310530864&amp;sr=1-1\">Death Magnetic<\/a> in the Finnish Album Charts and went gold after one week.
