Fishing!

27th mayo 2010

“Fishing is the activity of hunting for fish. It is an ancient and worldwide practice that dates back about 10,000 years with various techniques and traditions and it has been transformed by modern technological developments.” (Fishing.com)

Fishing is more than a sport to me; it is technique, equipment and passion.  A lot of people may think that fishing is boring, a waste of time and only suited for retirees. That is not true at all. Fishing is an experience that you share with a group; you make jokes, you laugh, you feel sad, you feel disappointed, etc.  That is the essential part of it. Sometimes, if you don’t fish, it doesn’t matter because you always have a good time with the people you go with. But, if you fish it is much better.

“Recreational and sport fishing describe fishing for pleasure or competition. Recreational fishing has conventions, rules, licensing restrictions and laws that limit the way in which fish may be caught; typically, these prohibit the use of nets and the catching of fish with hooks not in the mouth. The most common form of recreational fishing is done with a rod, reel, line, hooks and any other device from a wide range of baits.” (Wikipedia)

Here in our country, especially in Guayaquil, you can’t find good places where fishing products can be bought. There are only two or three expensive stores, which are not full equipped.  But, if you have the opportunity to travel to the United States, it will be much easier to buy products. There are a couple of gigantic, full equipped stores with reasonable prices.  “Bass Pro Shops”, in the south of U.S.A. “Cabelas”, in the center and north of U.S.A. Both are excellent stores where you can start buying your first fishing equipments.

Before you buy your first rod and reel, you can start living this amazing experience. The first time you go fishing, two things could happen: First; you would be very lucky and you may catch the biggest fish of the day.  Second; you wouldn’t catch anything because you don’t have the necessary experience.
