Estos deportes exigen desde el punto de vista psicológico una extraordinaria concentración y mucho entrenamiento, son actividades para un tipo muy especial de deportista en donde se arriesga todo en cada momento y en cada santiamén; ¡ puede ser un desastre para la vida !,  pensamos que algunos de estos son un suicidio.

El deporte y el idioma son ámbitos en constante estado de ebullición. Generan numerosas innovaciones que consiguen la adhesión social. En los últimos años, en Estados Unidos, Francia, Nueva Zelanda y los países nórdicos europeos han surgido nuevas disciplinas de riesgo y de aventura para vivir emociones al límite en espacios naturales arriesgados y en nuevos espacios urbanos. Se conocen con el nombre genérico de deporte extremo y en 1998 han celebrado la IV edición de su Olimpiada en California (Estados Unidos).

Su difusión en Iberoamérica se ha realizado desde estados Unidos y Francia y ha alcanzado un gran relieve en Argentina, Costa Rica, España, México, Puerto Rico, Venezuela y Ecuador donde estas nuevas disciplinas deportivas suelen ir asociadas a numerosos servicios turísticos y de ocio.
