La Ciudad mas Iluminada del Mundo

París es conocida como «La Ciudad De La Luz». Frank Sinatra cantaba: «Nueva York nunca duerme”. En Silicon Valley están los cerebros más brillantes del planeta, además de las mayores empresas tecnológicas. Pero ninguna de estas opciones responde a siguiente pregunta: ¿Cuál es la ciudad más luminosa del mundo?
¿Será Tokio? ¿Dubai? ¿Las Vegas? Los satélites de la NASA han obtenido imágenes que demuestran que la ciudad que más electricidad consume es Londres. Fotografiada por la noche, la capital británica despliega un asombroso resplandor.
Las fotos en cuestión se obtuvieron con una cámara digital colocada en la Estación Espacial Internacional, ese puesto de avanzada cósmica con permanente presencia humana. Esta cabeza de puente está habitada continuamente desde el 2 de noviembre de 2000 por un mínimo de dos astronautas.
¿Qué verán los extraterrestres?
Desde hace miles de años, los humanos se han maravillado al mirar la luna y las estrellas. ¿Qué pensaría un marciano al observar desde fuera nuestro planeta? Quizá se fijase en el cauce del río Nilo en Egipto: una larga y negra línea rodeada de concentraciones de luces.
Otras fotos, tomadas en las últimas dos semanas por el astronauta Douglas Wheelock muestran más paisajes fascinantes. Según sus propias palabras: «En una noche clara de Europa se puede la Aurora Boreal en todo su esplendor. En otoño destacan las orillas del mar Mediterráneo, sobre todo el hermoso mosaico de la costa de Valencia a la ciudad italiana de Livorno, incluyendo todas las localidades del trayecto».
Datos económicos
El coronel Wheelock se ha hecho popular publicando en la red social Twitter fotografías del espacio y de la Tierra tomadas desde la Estación Espacial Internacional. Muchas van acompañadas de comentarios como este: “El Estrecho de Dover es bastante más claro que París, la presunta Ciudad de las Luces, y hay un poco de niebla en la parte occidental de Inglaterra, lo que impide apreciarla con la belleza que tiene en los días claros”.
Las imágenes también sirven para confirmar investigaciones económicas. Por ejemplo: este año por primera vez el consumo energético de los países en desarrollo supera al de los países más desarrollados.
