Are you an anime fan?
Some people first started watching animation from Japan, like anime, and then got hooked on the series so now they have memorized all the episodes. Others have been through difficult times or are looking for a new hobby and they decide they want to watch anime. Whatever your reason may be, this post will hopefully provide some insight into what it means to love watching anime! Or maybe you know of a friend who likes cartoons and you’re not sure why?
Let’s start with the easy stuff. How many people watch anime? To get a sense of how many people like anime (we’ll be using this term interchangeably with cartoons) just look around your school. When you do, you will find that probably half of the people in your class have watched at least one episode of anime and maybe more. This is because most young adults have seen at least one episode of anime before they even hit middle school. A survey done by the United Nations showed that more than 80% of the people on Earth have seen some kind of anime. Not only that, but they also showed that over half of the world’s population watched more than 6 hours’ worth of anime per week. That is a whole lot of people watching a whole lot of anime!
So, if more people like to watch anime, why don’t we just make it an official thing in school? Well, one reason is that anime would not be able to be delivered in a school setting without unapproved content being shown. Another reason is that most schools are afraid of creating another pop culture trend and that would cause kids to harass other kids for watching anything with anyone else who watches anything. If a group of kids was to start watching anime, they would become the outcasts and get picked on. But most importantly, anime is seen as a hobby. Not like soccer or basketball which are sports but more like something you do for fun after school.

Anime is a Japanese word that means «animation». Anime is popular in Japan and many other countries around the world. In America, anime is becoming more popular, especially with teens. There are many kinds of anime, as there are many kinds of animation.
The word «anime» definitely has its roots in Japanese culture and history. Recently, it has become more well-known to Westerners because of its increasing popularity in the United States — according to Google Trends data from 2007 to 2012, search traffic for the term «anime» increased by 900%.
Over time, anime has become more than just a cultural phenomenon in Japan — it has become internationalized and been exported worldwide through various markets including television networks and online streaming services such as Crunchyroll and Funimation. This popularization has led to a rise in the number of self-proclaimed anime fans, who have helped to alter the way this particular culture is experienced by Western audiences today.
