What’s so special about cacti

These spiny succulents that complement any environment always have and to this day remain a wonder to humans and animals in nature. A hungry creature will eat anything in its path to stay alive and, as such, is continually searching for food. Those who have attempted to extract the juices from this plant have done so at their own peril. Most of the time, they come out of the ordeal with nothing more than painful stabs to the mouth and legs from the sharp points the cactus plant has.

The cactus species has been extensively researched to find what makes them worthy of having an entire family named after them. What sets them apart from most flora is the physical perspective that no other plant on the planet possesses. And in this piece, we will look at more characteristics that make these succulents unique and highly prized and also used San Pedro cactus for sale.

They grow anywhere and everywhere

Contrary to popular belief, cacti can be grown in almost any climate in the world and not just in the desert climate. This is supported by the fact that some species have been found to thrive in rainforests and colder environments in different parts of the world. Their resistance to the harsh conditions experienced in deserts makes them even more popular. Wherever they are raised, they find ways to survive, thrive and produce. As long as they have all their nutritional needs met, in the desert or in your backyard, they will thrive. Cacti are not picky plants.

They are nocturnal plants

Humans are wired differently and, as you will see, so are plants. Some people are early risers and some are not. Others are more productive during the day and others at night. Animals also behave the same way, some hunt at night and others during the day. And the cactus family are loyal members of the night club. Cacti open their stomata at night unlike most plants. If they open their pores during the day, they will lose most of the water they hold within their tissues, and this means a shorter life span. They prefer the night because the temperatures are cooler and the calmer breeze helps them retain most of their water storage.

They are stem succulents

Most succulents are characterized by the fact that they have thick leaves as their main water storage tanks. But this is not the case when it comes to cacti. For starters, cacti don’t have leaves. Instead, they have somewhere else to store the water they absorb; otherwise, they wouldn’t be here today. Their swollen stems take on this role, which explains why they are thick, round and tight to the touch. Some even look like they’re about to burst. Well, now you know why their stems look like this; they are the plant’s main water reservoir.

Their unique growth habits

Cacti exhibit a variety of different growth patterns that make them very strange. The first growth habit is arborescent cacti, which grow like a tree with a single trunk topped by several branches. The second type are columnar cacti which consist of an erect, cylindrical shaped stem. The stems may be branched or unbranched, depending on the species. The smallest versions are those that grow globular in shape. These are the shorter and smaller ball-shaped versions of columnar cacti. Cacti that grow in this pattern are mostly solitary succulents or may develop several clusters that may share the same root.

Other cacti growing in tropical regions develop as epiphytes, which are plants that grow on other plants and obtain their nutrients from the surrounding air. Still others emerge as climbers that can reach enormous sizes. These types usually have flattened stems with little or no spines and for example, San Pedro cactus powders are special and very famous.
