JUSTIFICACIÓN: Consideramos que las reglas de Bob se aplican en su integridad a situaciones cotidianas de aprendizaje y posterior y lógicamente a la vida profesional. Las normativas dadas pueden ser complementadas, pero para vivir a plenitud no puede ninguna ser omitida. Mientras más rápido las complemente, mejor usted vivirá (se vive a plenitud cuando se aprende y produce para un bien común).

Al seguir las reglas de esta entrada les solicitamos paciencia y mantenerlas presentes en su accionar dentro y fuera de la Institución. Os podemos asegurar que si algún alumno las sigue cotidianamente no conocerá derrotas dentro de la ESPOL, donde se requiere reinventarse cada día.

LAS 16 REGLAS (Robert Parsons, Tuesday, February 15, 2005) MEDIANTE LA CUALES TRATO DE PERMANECER VIVO:

1. Salga y permanezca fuera de su zona de confort. Yo creo que nada significativo sucede cuando estamos asentados en nuestra zona de comodidad. Yo escucho a la gente decir, «yo solo estoy preocupado por mi seguridad». Mi respuesta a esta afirmación es simple: «La seguridad es para los cadáveres».

2. Nunca se rinda. Casi nada funciona la primera vez que se intenta. Sólo porque lo que está haciendo no parece estar funcionando, no significa que no funcionará. Simplemente significa que no podrá funcionar en la forma en que lo estamos intentando. Y si fue fácil hacerlo, todos lo estarán hacemos y usted no tendría nunca una oportunidad.

3. Cuando usted está presto a retirarse, está más cerca de lo que cree de alcanzar su meta. Ronda un viejo refrán chino que a mí me encanta. Yo  creo que es muy cierto y reza así: «La tentación de abandonar es mayor justo antes del momento preciso en que va a tener éxito».

4. Con respecto a lo que a usted le preocupa, no sólo acepte lo peor que podría ocurrir, sino que convierta esa situación a su favor, esto cuantificando lo peor que podría ser su preocupación. Muy rara vez, la peor consecuencia será cercana, en cualquier lugar, a la nube de «consecuencias indefinidas» que están en su mente. Mi padre me decía años atrás, desde un principio, cuando yo estaba luchando y peleaba al punto de perder mi camiseta tratando que la tecnología Parsons funcione: «Bueno, Robert, si no funciona, ellos no te podrán comer.»

5. Concéntrese en lo que usted quiere que suceda. Recuerde este viejo refrán, «De la manera en que usted piensa, así será aquello que usted espera.»

6. Tome las cosas una a la vez (una por día). No importa cuán difícil es su situación, usted la puede sobrellevar y  dominar si no mira en demasía hacia el futuro y se centra (se enfoca) en el momento presente. Usted puede sobrellevar y dominar todo con la receta una cosa a la vez.

7. Manténgase avanzando siempre hacia adelante. Nunca deje de invertir en sí mismo.  Nunca deje de mejorar. Nunca deje de hacer algo nuevo. En el momento que usted deja de mejorar su organización, esta comienza a morir. Haga como su meta ser mejor cada día, esto en pequeños y seguidos pasos. Recuerde el concepto japonés del Kaizen: Pequeñas mejoras diarias resultan eventualmente en enormes ventajas.

8.          Sea rápido para decidir. Recuerde al general Tecumseh Sherman quien durante la Guerra Civil de la Unión (en Norte América.) expreso: «Un buen plan ejecutado impetuosamente hoy, es mejor, por muy lejos, a cualquier plan perfecto que se ejecute mañana.»

9. Mida todo lo significativo. Y esto es verdad. Todo aquello que se mide y se  vigila, mejorará.

10. Cualquier cosa que no se gerencia se va a deteriorar. Si quiere destapar problemas ocultos, tome unos momentos y observe de cerca aquellas áreas que durante un tiempo no ha examinado.  Le garantizo que encontrará problemas.

11. Preste atención a su competencia (sus competidores), sin embargo preste más atención a lo que está ahora haciendo. Cuando usted observa a sus competidores, verá que todo, a la distancia, parece perfecto. Incluso el planeta Tierra, si se lo ve, en el espacio, desde muy lejos, parece un lugar tranquilo.

12. Nunca permita que alguien lo presione. En nuestra sociedad, con nuestras leyes e incluso en el campo de igualdad de condiciones, usted tiene el mismo derecho que los demás, esto a condición de que lo que está haciendo es legal.

13. Nunca espere que la vida sea justa. La vida no es justa. Elabore sus propios frenazos y  pausas. Usted estará haciendo el bien si considera que lo que realiza es  justo para sí mismo, esto es similar a pagar la tarifa al subirse a un transporte público (el pasaje).

14. Resuelva sus propios problemas. Usted encontrará que al llegar a sus propias soluciones, usted ha desarrollado una ventaja competitiva. Masura Ibuka, uno de los fundadores de SONY, lo dijo mejor y así: «Usted nunca tendrá éxito en el campo de la tecnología, negocios, o en cualquier otro, si es un seguidor de los demás.» Existe un viejo refrán de la antigua Asia que dice, y yo me lo recuerdo con frecuencia, justamente: «El hombre sabio mantiene su propia dirección.»

15. No se tome demasiado en serio. Aligérese. A menudo, por lo menos la mitad de lo que realizamos se debe al factor suerte. Ninguno de nosotros controla tanto como nos gusta pensar.

16. Siempre hay una razón para sonreír. Encuéntrala. Después de todo, usted realmente tiene suerte de estar vivo. La vida es corta. Más y más, estoy de acuerdo con mi hermano pequeño. Él siempre me recuerda: «No estaremos aquí por mucho tiempo, estamos aquí por buenos momentos.»
